Cognitive decline is the decline in function of someone’s thinking, memory, concentration, and other brain functions. The phenomenon is mainly found in older adults and is often an early sign of dementia and other neurodegenerative conditions. While an unnerving condition for many, it is possible to reduce your risk and delay the onset of cognitive decline. One of the ways to do so, alongside exercise is through eating a balanced diet. According to a study recently published in the British Journal of Nutrition , one particular type of fruit could be particularly beneficial in reducing someone’s risk of dementia .
Citrus fruits could help reduce the risk of dementia by 23 percent. These conclusions were reached after study of over 13,000 participants in a Japanese study report " Citrus consumption and incident dementia in elderly Japanese ". They found those who ate citrus fruits every day were significantly less likely to develop dementia in the succeeding six years than those who only ate them once or twice a week. The data in question for the study was taken from a Japanese long-term care insurance database.
